April 2013 Newsletter

It’s April – Batter Up!

Whether it’s a baseball batter or cooking batter, we’re excited for April at Angela’s.  April means spring is here for certain and summer is just around the corner.  We look forward to spending more time outdoors and turning our attention to those warmer weather foods.

Wine of the Month:

Casalini Pinot Grigio

Winemaker Notes:  This 2011 vintage from the hilly zones of Central Veneto in Italy is a brilliant straw yellow color. It has an intense, ample and persistent bouquet of fresh fruit and flowers. The taste is delicate and elegant, with a crispy, dry nerve well balanced by aromas of ripe fruits like golden apple and tropical fruits.  It is excellent with any fish especially grilled and roasted, but it goes well also with White Risotto and delicate white meat dishes.

April Special: $11.95 per bottle or 2 for $21.90

Pasta of the Month:

Artichoke and Fresh Fennel Ravioli.  Fresh baby artichokes traditionally cooked with herbs and spices, then blended with fresh fennel and Fontina cheese.

Pkg. of 8 large ravioli  $7.95

Cheese of the Month:

Bucherondin De Chevre

Bucherondin is a mild, French goat cheese made by Sevre et Belle, a large, century-old dairy cooperative in the Poitou-Charentes region of western France.  Bucherondin is made with pasteurized milk and has the shape of a log – ‘buche’ is French for log and ‘bucheron’ means woodcutter or lumberjack.  Bucherondin has a wrinkled bloomy rind that resembles the bark of a tree.  This gourmet cheese is semi-soft, and has a dense, flaky paste and the flavor of Bucherondin is mild when young then sharpens with age.

This cheese is excellent served with aperitifs or can be used for salads, marinating or simply chevre for the cheese board.
